Is the Maldives open to holiday makers despite coronavirus?

The Maldives remains a very safe destination for holiday-makers with all arrivals screened for symptoms of Covid-19 at the airport. Our resorts are stand-alone properties, on isolated islands, where all entry into and exit from the resorts are managed and monitored by the resort. The health of our guests is of utmost importance to us, and all our resorts have a medical clinic with an on-site doctor.

Are there any travel restrictions to the Maldives due to coronavirus?

Entry restrictions have been placed on tourists arriving from China, Iran, South Korea, Italy and Bangladesh.

Can I change my booking if travel restrictions to the Maldives prevent me from staying?

Can my children stay in the room for free?

One child, under the age of 12, is eligible to stay in your room free of charge. (Please note that breakfast for the child(ren) will be charged at 50% of adult rate.) At certain hotels, larger rooms are available which can accommodate 2 children. These rooms are normally in the superior or deluxe room category. You can mention this request at the time of booking.

Where is the Maldives?

The Maldives is a group of 1,200 coral islands that are located in the Indian Ocean to the south and southwest of India and Sri Lanka, respectively. It is about 4 hours flying time from Singapore on the east and 5 hours flying time from the Gulf region on the west.

Do you charge for cancellations?

The cancellation policy of each hotel varies according to the property and the time of year. In the high season, we apply a stricter policy than during the low season. Full details will be advised to you at the time of booking.

How do I get to the Maldives?

The best way to get to the Maldives is by air travel. A number of flights, both scheduled and charter operate to the Maldives.

Can I upgrade to all-inclusive or all-inclusive plus from full board?

Yes, please ask for assistance at the reception. However, it is less expensive to purchase as part of your prepaid package from your tour operator or travel agent.

Will I be met upon arrival / departure at the Airport?

Yes, after clearing customs, exit into the arrivals hall. Our airport representative will meet and greet you then direct you to your ongoing transfer.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

The check-in time at Holiday Island is 14:00 and the check-out time is 13:00. We will of course do our best to have a room available for you whenever you arrive. However, this can never be guaranteed and is dependent on the occupancy level the night before. If you are planning to arrive early then you may wish to book your room from the night before. If you are departing late, special rates are available for late check-out.

What is the weather like?

The Maldives enjoys a warm, tropical climate cooled by a refreshing tropical breeze throughout the year. The average air temperature is 30 degrees Celsius (86 Degree Fahrenheit) and hardly changes. The average water temperature is 29 degrees Celsius (84 Degree Fahrenheit). There can be some infrequent light rain from May to November. Rain lasting more than an hour or two is rare so don't forget to always use sunscreen.

Is there a dress code?

Dress as you wish on the island. Holiday Island reflects the very casual atmosphere. In the bars, restaurants, and reception, women are requested to cover up over a bathing suit (top and bottom) and men to at least wear a T-shirt (not sleeveless) and Bermuda style shorts. Women and men visiting a local island should cover their shoulders and thighs and not wear anything transparent. Public nudity is prohibited.

There is a lending library in the lobby where you can take or donate a book and magazines.

What kind of electrical sockets are provided in the room?

The electricity is 220 Volts, 50 Hz. Electrical outlets accommodate standard UK style 3 flat pin plugs. Adapters may be purchased at the Holiday Souvenir Shop.

Does Holiday have mobile phone coverage?

There is good GSM International Roaming service (Dhiraagu & Oreedoo).

Is there a safe in the room?

There is a personal safe provided at no charge in your room. The resort accepts no responsibility for any valuables not locked in your safe.

Are babysitting services available?

Yes, babysitting services are available at most of the hotels upon request. Please ask the respective hotel for the price.

Do I need a Visa to enter the Maldives?

No, you do not need a prior visa to enter the Maldives. All travellers are given a 30-day visa upon arrival.

What is the best time to visit Maldives?

The best time to visit Maldives is during November to April when there are clear skies and it is dry. The visibility for diving is also high during this period. However, for surfers it is the opposite, since the south west monsoon brings in the best waves, with the largest waves occurring in July and August.

How do I pay? and which method of payments are acceptable?

Holiday Island accepts cash (Euro, GBP, US$ and MVR), credit (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and UnionPay) or debit card. Travelers or personal checks are not accepted. Guests must charge all purchases to their room because payment is not made until check-out at reception. Flexible rate bookings also require credit card for payment guarantee, but are charged at the time of check-out.

How far is Holiday Island from Airport?

Holiday Island is 20 minutes by airplane from Velana Int Airport, about 97 km from Male. Holiday Island is located at the tip of South Ari Atoll.

How would I identify the person I am supposed to meet?

He would be outside the arrival hall carrying a board with your name or we would give you the booth number.

How big is Holiday Island?

Holiday is about 700 meters long by 150 meters wide. You can walk around the island in about 25 minutes.

Does the Resort provides beach towel?

Yes, beach towels are provided in your room at no charge for use at the beach.

What is the dress code in fitness centre?

Gym outfit and gym shoes, not street shoes. Gym shoes are sneakers with "rubber" soles. Sandals, bare feet, and only socks are not permitted. Bathing suits are not permitted.

Are there medical facilities at Holiday?

There is a clinic and a resident doctor available 24 hours a day.

Is TV provided in the rooms?

Color satellite TV is provided and features more than 30 channels including foreign languages.

Does Holiday provide internet connection?

Free wireless connection to the internet is provided in your guest room, all public areas and at the business centre, for email, web browsing, social networking and telephone calls.

Do you have mosquito nets in the room?

No, because there are very few mosquitos. If you are particularly sensitive to mosquito bites then it is recommended to use a mosquito repellent which is available at the Souvenir Shop.

Are drones allowed in Holiday?

For safety and privacy reasons, drones and other flying devices of similar nature are not allowed in Holiday Island.

Would there be a language problem?

English is widely spoken and understood. All resorts have at least one staff who can speak the following languages, German, Italian, French, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese.

What is the currency used in the Maldives?

The currency used in Maldives is Maldivian Rufiyaa. All resorts accept all major currencies. And in 99% of the country US dollar is accepted as payment.
