Situated north of Kandooma, this is one of the most interesting dive sites in South Malé Atoll. On the north western side, there are blocks covered with soft corals and along the reef edges are small overhangs. In the overhangs, you’ll often encounter Napoleons, turtles and groupers. Along the edge, towards the north eastern side, you’ll also find grey reef sharks, whitetip sharks, eagle rays, giant trevallies, dogtooth tuna and blue fusiliers. At the north eastern point is the shark cleaning station, where countless sharks can be seen. Along the eastern tip is a plateau where sharks are also seen. On the top of the thila you can find large groups of various types of large fish and turtles.
Lying almost at the northern edge of Kandooma are some of the largest caves in the Maldives. In the caves and overhangs are yellow sponges, sea fans and small tube corals and, very often, nurse sharks. These colorful caves are filled with fish such as groupers, clown triggerfish, Napoleon, oriental sweetlips, angelfish, yellow snappers, sea anemones, moray eels, eagle rays, whitetip sharks, blue trevallies and, not forgetting, big green turtles.
Between Guraidhoo and Lhosfushi Channels lies Medhu Thila where you can do drift dives. On the outside reef, you can see an abundance of sea fans, soft corals and big fish such as barracuda, Napoleon, sharks, eagle rays and dogtooth tuna. At 23 meters, there are two small overhangs filled with marine life. Along the sloping wall you will find colorful coral, moray eels and octopuses.
Guraidhoo Corner is a marine protected area where you can find sharks, eagle rays, moray eels, dog toothed tuna, mobula rays, turtles, Napoleons and various schools of fish. The current here can be strong, so it is only suitable for experienced divers.
This site lies south of Cocoa Resort. From the outside reef going into the channel, there is a steep wall. About 200 meters inside the channel, at around 30 meters deep, are a number of blocks. The blocks are filled with colorful plant life and often sharks can be seen swimming around. Eagle rays, Napoleons, turtles, moray eels, and schools of fish can also be seen here.
Lhosfushi Kuda Kandu
Located south west of Lhosfushi Island, this reef is where you can find green turtles, Napoleons and titan trigger fish. Snappers and nurse sharks can be found sleeping inside the overhangs. Plus, between 22 and 24 meters deep, in the middle of the channel, is where you will often see large groups of sting rays.
