Taro (Olhu Ala) Taro ( Olhu Ala) Taro or colocasia esculenta schott is grown primarily in Asia, Polynesia and Americas. There are many different types of edible aroids in the Maldives. Olu Ala well-known in Maldives is cooked and has been a traditional staple food of some people in southern islands, because they have muddy and swampy land suitable for its growth. Most aroids are known for their love of a humid environment and their ability to flourish in swampy conditions. The roots are usually peeled and boiled. However, Maldivians use this in various ways. Includes making sweets, making deep-fried chips and even making its flour. Enjoy taro served in our Maldivian dinner nights in the buffets. You may see some varieties of this beneficial yam in Sun Island.
