Flamboyant Tree (Reethigas)
Flamboyant Tree or Delonix regia also known as flame tree or
Poinciana is a medium
sized, deciduous, broad-crowned ornamental tree of
rapid growth. In Sun Island its been planted for shade and looks.Its’ leaves
mostly 30-60 cm long, with 10-20 pairs of pinnae, these about 10 cm long,
each with 25-35 pairs of small medium green leaflets ,each about 1 cm long
(thus the whole leaf with anything from 800 to 2400 leaflets); brilliant red
flowers bloom near branch-tips, the uppermost petal is streaked with yellow
or yellow-and-white; petals stalked, their distal part abruptly expanded,
the pod is woody, up to 50 cm long, flattened straight with dark
reddish-brown turning black, filled with small seeds.
