Lizards (Bondu)

Lizards that live in Maldives are few; all are harmless and beneficial. The most obvious lizards are the calotes, Indian lizard. They are not too big however thy have quite long tails. It likes to rest on rocks, tree trunks and bushes from knee- to eye-level. Patterned in shades of brown, the males sometimes have red color on its back. The females appear somewhat different: small brown lizards with a bold, light band of color down the middle of the back. You may see them around on the roads and trees but sometimes they have a tendency to change its color according to the surroundings which makes it quite difficult to spot them. They mostly eat insects.
